IDEA Partnership’s Cross-Partner Exploration of Issues Workshop
Individuals with Disabilities in Education Act Partnerships
In 2000, Dr. Raab helped design and run a consensus-building Summit for 700 teachers and other service providers, principals, families, and policy makers on issues related to IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities in Education Act). The Summit included a consensus-seeking track for 80 delegates from the four Partnerships. Dr. Raab supervised a team of 4 facilitators. Following the Summit, Dr. Raab designed and facilitated a two-day strategic planning retreat for the leaders of the 4 Partnerships.

The 2001 Summit was a follow-up to a successful, highly-interactive, two-day workshop for 200 leaders on issues surrounding educating children with disabilities that took place in Washington, D.C. in June. The workshop addressed a range of issues including discipline, family/school relationships, over-identification of minorities, standards based reform, personnel issues, and the effective and efficient implementation of IDEA. Dr. Raab facilitated the plenary sessions, including a closing discussion on future directions for the partnership, and managed a team of six facilitators running the break-out sessions.
